چکیده

In the Jager group, a series of bichromophoric light-harvesting antenna systems has been synthesized in a modular fashion by covalent attachment of blue light-absorbing naphthalene monoimide energy donors to green light-absorbing perylene3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid energy acceptors. Quantitative and ultrafast (ca. 1 ps) intramolecular excitation energy transfer (EET) from the donor to the acceptor chromophores was observed for all antenna molecules in toluene. The combination of effi cient energy transfer along with broad absorption in the visible region makes these antenna systems promising materials for solarto-electric and solar-to-fuel devices. The image was produced by Nicolas Renaud from Delft University of Technology. As featured in:

Substitution Effects on the Photoinduced Charge-Transfer Properties of Novel Perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic Acid Derivatives

We report here the synthesis and photophysical study of a series of electron donor-acceptor molecules, in which electron-donating 4-methoxyphenoxy groups are attached to the 1,7-bay positions of four different perylene tetracarboxylic acid derivatives, namely, perylene tetraesters 1, perylene monoimide diesters 2, perylene bisimides 3, and perylene monobenzimidazole monoimides 4. These perylene...

Ultraselective fluorescent sensing of Hg2+ through metal coordination-induced molecular aggregation.

A new type of fluorescent sensor has been developed from a perylene based molecule, N,N'-dideoxythymidine-3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic diimide (TT-PTCDI); the strong, highly selective binding between the thymine ligand (T) and Hg2+ ion enables efficient sensing of mercury ions based on a fluorescence quenching mechanism, which is primarily caused by metal-coordination induced molecular agg...

Chemical reaction mediated self-assembly of PTCDA into nanofibers.

Uniform and crystalline nanofibers of perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA), an insoluble organic semiconducting molecule, have been achieved by self-assembling the molecules using chemical reaction mediated conversion of an appropriately designed soluble precursor, perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) using carbodiimide chemistry.

Combining light-harvesting and charge separation in a self-assembled artificial photosynthetic system based on perylenediimide chromophores.

Self-assembly of robust perylenediimide chromophores is used to produce an artificial light-harvesting antenna structure that in turn induces self-assembly of a functional special pair that undergoes ultrafast, quantitative charge separation. The structure consists of four 1,7-(3',5'-di-tert-butylphenoxy)perylene-3,4:9,10-perylene-3,4:9,10-bis(carboximide) (PDI) molecules attached to a single 1...
